The abandoned work is a form of voluntary incompletion because the interruption of the writing process is decided by the author himself. Abandonment is preceded by considerations and traces that make the process intelligible, especially when identified in avant-textual documents in which the author often not only plans the construction of the text but also reasons about it by tracing the criticalities that condition its progress. The article aims to reflect on some aspects of Georges Perec's abandoned works, showing how these are integrated within the completed works through the processes of dissemination and proliferation.

Starting from an analysis of Vanessa Roghi's recent book, Piccole città, we focus on the link between historiographic writing and autobiography. In particular, it analyzes the way this link changed at the end of the twentieth century, when political categories that had determined identities, even of historians, for more than a century, have finished. Since then, issues considered "private" have emerged in the public debate and in the historiographic debate, as happened for example with drug addiction, at the centre of Roghi's book.

The five manuscript texts in Italian, written almost entirely in America, to which the writer from Polizzi Generosa entrusted his self-confidence, poetic and civic re-foundation, unfold over a chronological period from 1928 to 1935. We dwell on the intrinsic contamination between autobiography and invention that feeds Borgese’s writing in a web of literary, ethical, spiritual, philosophical and political ramifications. The article focuses on unexpected pathways of successful students with an immigrant background, in order to investigate the implication of this phenomenon from a theoretical, methodological and empirical point of view. After a review of the main sociological studies on “immigrant optimism” towards educational success, I will reflect on biographical approach, particularly suitable to study this topic. A on-going research project based on the collection of educational autobiographies of successful immigrant-origin students, attending upper secondary schools in Northern Italy, is presented. The polymorphic concept of the novel and the intertextuality of the literary genres characterize the work of Georges Perec, whose writing looks into different genres, codes and models and combines them in order to preserve the singularity of each of his works.
